Playing golf at The Duke for charity

Friday 19 September

The 8 Dukes Business to Business Golf Day | Playing golf or charity
Every year, eight members of The Duke Golf Course organize a business-to-business golf day for entrepreneurs and their business associates. Playing this top-notch course isn’t for everyone; it’s only possible by invitation from a member of The Duke. Golfing at The Duke is a true experience, with an amazing restaurant, excellent practice facilities, a stunning hotel, and most importantly: a magnificent 18-hole golf course where every golfer simply must play the signature hole (7). The photo at the top of this page says it all…

10 flights for Golfers Against Brain Cancer

This year, The 8 Dukes have donated 10 of their flights to GAB, an initiative of Redline Golf to raise money through golf for research into immunotherapy for brain cancer. All proceeds from this day will go to GAB and the UMC Utrecht. Read more here. Redline Golf is naturally sponsoring the day with great prizes and will be creating personalized golf balls for you and your clients, which you can design yourself at The Duke with your mobile phone.

Sponsor a hole for €250 | get a free pop-out banner worth €250 | we will design it for you for free

The Duke Golf Course has allowed us to place pop-out banners around the greens on this day to raise extra funds for GAB. We can place two pop-out banners behind each green. So, a total of 36 sponsors/banners can be accommodated. This sponsorship option is actually free, because we’ll design and produce the 1.1 x 2.6 meter pop-out banner for you in full color for free. You can take it home after the tournament. If you have this banner made in the Netherlands, it will easily cost you €250. So, free sponsorship. You’re happy, GAB. Happy.

Reservations must be made before August 25th, preferably sooner, as we need 14 days for production and delivery. Send an email if you’d like to pay by invoice or call 0475 564400.

Can’t come to the event yourself, but would still like to sponsor a hole? Possible?
Yes, you can. We’ll send you the banner after the tournament, and of course, we’ll also take photos of it for you to use on social media. You can sponsor as many banners as you like. The more banners, the more exposure.

  • You do it for her and 50,000 others

  • You must play this hole at least once in your golf life

  • They will spoil you with culinary delights

  • We‘ll make it a golf day you’ll never forget

Life is beautiful and sometimes very unfair
In November 2024, our daughter Ghislaine Bros (25) was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, a grade II diffuse astrocytoma to be precise. This is the most common brain tumor among young adults (ages 18 to 40, approximately 50,000 annually worldwide). It is a slow-growing cancer that unfortunately cannot (yet) be completely removed/destroyed and can mutate into a fast-growing type over time. The current protocol includes surgery, slowing the progression (with the new drug Vorasidenib), and, when surgery is no longer possible, chemotherapy and radiation.

Promising results for immunotherapy in brain cancer in clinical trials
During our search for information about treatment methods, we came across a new type of therapy called immunotherapy: more specifically, CAR-T cell therapy. This treatment method trains and adapts the immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells. The goal is to enable the immune system to respond specifically to tumor cells, while sparing healthy cells as much as possible. In blood cancers, this has led to complete recovery in some patients, a breakthrough in cancer research. While this is new for brain cancer, promising results have been achieved in initial clinical trials. By supporting research to apply this therapy to brain cancer, we hope to pave the way to completely destroy cancer cells. Brain cancer, and other cancers as well, must be cured in the future!

Niels Bovenschen, immunotherapy researcher at UMC Utrecht

New generation immunotherapy for brain tumors
In Europe, the laboratory of Niels Bovenschen at the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU) has been working on immunotherapy for years. In 2021, Niels and his team discovered a protein that inhibits the immune system, thus protecting the cancer and making it invisible to immune cells. They found this in medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor that primarily occurs in children. To continue researching next-generation immunotherapy, the lab needs € 100,000 annually. Their goal is to develop a therapy that is easier to use, more affordable, and safer than current CAR-T cell therapy. In one of their studies, they are using so-called Natural Killer (NK) cells. Like T cells, these are immune cells that the body uses to eliminate diseased cells, but NK cells cause fewer side effects such as inflammatory reactions. Through various modifications, they want to train these effective and safe cells to recognize and eliminate brain cancer cells. He calls this Next Generation Immunotherapy for brain tumors.

Golfers Against Brain Cancer
In October 2011, we founded the online golf brand Redline Golf, a fantastic company that has since introduced tens of thousands of golfers to it. This year and in the coming years, we will be committed to raising money for this research through the golf community worldwide. We will do this by selling golf equipment, organizing golf tournaments, and pursuing innovative initiatives. We call this project GAB.©: Golfers Against Brain Cancer. All proceeds go to the UMC Utrecht and the research project of Niels Bovenschen: https://hersenen.actievoorumcutrecht-wkz.nl/teams/gab/

See you on September 19th?
